En 1763-1764, le projet général pour la défense de Toulon prévoit notamment la construction de deux redoutes dans le secteur est de la montagne, l'une située à la Croix Faron et l'autre, sur un replat intérieur, à l'emplacement du futur fort Faron. Pour réaliser la redoute de Faron, l'éloignement de la ville incite à construire préalablement un cantonnement de chantier, équipé d'une citerne pour fournir l'eau nécessaire aux travaux. Conçue et réalisée par le sous-brigadier Louis d'Aiguillon au cours de l'année 1766, ce bâtiment de service est, dès l'année suivante, intégré au système défensif permanent ; enveloppé d'une enceinte et d'un fossé, il devient une caserne retranchée

History
In 1763-1764, the general project for the defence of Toulon provides notably for the construction of two redoutes in the eastern sector of the mountain, one situated at Croix Faron and the other, on an interior platform, at the location of the future fort Faron. To construct the redoute of Faron, the distance from the city prompted the prior construction of a cantonment for the work site, equipped with a cistern to supply the water necessary for the work. Designed and constructed by the sub-brigadier Louis d'Aiguillon in the course of 1766, this service building is, from the following year, integrated into the permanent defensive system; enclosed by a fortification and a ditch, it becomes an entrenched barracks.
