Historique
Un premier projet, conçu par l'architecte brésilien Lucio Costa, fut suivi d'un projet d'exécution par Le Corbusier. Le permis de construire fut délivré le 22 septembre 1955 ; les travaux commencèrent en 1957 ; l'inauguration du bâtiment eut lieu le 24 juin 1959. Le pavillon, construit en béton, comprend trois corps de bâtiment : un bloc longitudinal de cinq niveaux reposant sur une plate-forme portée par six portiques, un corps trapézoïdal d'un seul niveau et une aile rectangulaire à toiture plane inclinée. On y retrouve les caractéristiques de l'architecture de Le Corbusier : loggias, polychromie, plafond oblique, usage des pans de verre ondulatoire...

History
