La décision d'édifier une fontaine sur la place publique est prise le 26 juillet 1761 par une délibération du conseil de la communauté de Samoëns, afin que les septimontains puissent profiter d'une eau plus pure. Le 16 août 1761, les bourgeois de la ville décident d'y contribuer pour la fourniture en argent et par la fourniture des bois qui seront pris dans les endroits les plus à portée du bourg et de chaque hameau de ladite paroisse. History
The decision to erect a fountain in the public square was taken on 26 July 1761 by a resolution of the council of the community of Samoëns, so that the Samoëns inhabitants could benefit from purer water. On 16 August 1761, the townsmen of the city decided to contribute money and to supply the wood which would be taken from the places most easily accessible to the town and to each hamlet of said parish. The inhabitants were called upon to contribute by means of the corvées necessary for the transport of materials and the digging of channels. The work was entrusted to the Morrand brothers of the parish of Sixt.
