Construit en 1928-1930 dans le quartier de la gare sur une parcelle triangulaire très étroite, l’hôtel de Bourgogne occupe un emplacement à la fois très visible et contraint par ses dimensions. Pour relever ce défi, l’architecte clermontois Albéric Aubert dont c’est une œuvre de jeunesse, un peu avant le sanatorium Sabourin, choisit une ossature en béton armé, qui autorise des maçonneries minces, et place une partie des façades en encorbellement sur la rue.

La pointe du triangle, traitée en mince pignon aveugle forme une proue saisissante à l’angle des deux rues en déclivité. Avec leurs poteaux en saillie montant de fond, les façades présentent une ordonnance orthogonale élancée dont la verticalité est compensée par le format carré de ses baies, la marquise à cabochons de verre et les décors de style art Déco (bas reliefs stylisés de Gournier et ferronneries à lignes géométriques de la porte d’entrée).

History
Built in 1928-1930 in the station district on a very narrow triangular plot, the Hôtel de Bourgogne occupies a location both highly visible and constrained by its dimensions. To meet this challenge, the Clermont-Ferrand architect Albéric Aubert for whom this is an early work, shortly before the Sabourin sanatorium, chooses a reinforced concrete frame, which allows thin masonry, and places part of the façades in corbelling over the street.
Description
The point of the triangle, treated as a thin blind gable forms a striking prow at the angle of the two sloping streets. With their projecting posts running from top to bottom, the façades present an elongated orthogonal arrangement whose verticality is compensated by the square format of its openings, the glass-cabochon marquee and the art Deco style decorations (stylised low reliefs by Gournier and geometric-line ironwork of the entrance door).
