Historique
Construite de 1762 à 1771 par l'ingénieur Dijon puis surélevée en 1822 par l'architecte Louis Ledru, la halle s'inscrit dans la politique urbanistique de la fin du 18e siècle. Elle correspondait au souci de développer les échanges et la circulation, et d'assurer au commerce des locaux vastes, commodes et facilement contrôlables. L'édifice de style néoclassique a été conçu selon un plan rectangulaire avec quatre galeries voûtées d'arêtes entourant une cour centrale, et surmontées d'un étage destiné à l'entrepôt des grains. Au 19e siècle, l'édifice servit également à l'enseignement du dessin et des arts et métiers. Cette école des Beaux-Arts occupa l'ensemble des locaux jusqu'en 1999.

History
Built from 1762 to 1771 by engineer Dijon then raised in 1822 by architect Louis Ledru, the hall is part of the urban policy of the late 18th century. It corresponded to the concern to develop exchanges and circulation, and to provide commerce with vast, convenient and easily controllable premises. The neoclassical building was designed according to a rectangular plan with four galleries with groined vaults surrounding a central courtyard, and surmounted by a storey intended for grain storage. In the 19th century, the building also served for the teaching of drawing and arts and crafts. This School of Fine Arts occupied all the premises until 1999.
