Historique
Le puits n°2 fut foncé en 1860 et mis en service en 1863. La fosse fut reconstruite après sa destruction pendant la Grande Guerre. Elle fut pressentie dès 1934 pour devenir le siège de concentration de la compagnie afin de réduire les effectifs de personnel et économiser les combustibles. Les travaux d'équipement, entamés en 1938, sont très ralentis par la Seconde guerre mondiale. L'installation de la salle des machines, machine d'extraction et turbocompresseur, fut menée de 1938 à 1945. La concentration commença dès 1941. Les bâtiments de recette, lavoir, bains-douches, lampisterie et triage-lavoir furent aménagés de 1947 à 1950. Un chevalement aujourd'hui disparu fut monté en 1947. En 1943, le siège n°2 fut doté d'une machine d'extraction à vapeur, un équipement électrique aurait en effet exigé un remaniement trop onéreux. Il s'agit de la plus grande machine à vapeur construite en France. Un chevalement moderne fut installé lors d'une seconde phase de travaux débutant en 1948. En 1950, la fosse n°2 était opérationnelle, apparaissant comme l'une des plus modernes du bassin. La production de la fosse fut arrêtée en 1976. La cheminée fut abattue en 1977, le chevalement en 1980. Les bâtiments et installations furent détruits à l'exception des ateliers centraux, du bâtiment et de la machine d'extraction. ££La mine image est une galerie de mines reconstituée en surface ou sous terre à faible profondeur pour servir de terrain d'apprentissage avant la première descente, ou de lieu de formation professionnelle pour les mineurs, notamment sur les questions de sécurité. Celle de Oignies date de 1945. Elle est constituée de deux longs tunnels de tôle prolongés par une galerie souterraine placée sous un petit terril constitué à cet effet.

History
Pit no. 2 was sunk in 1860 and put into service in 1863. The pit head was rebuilt after its destruction during the Great War.
