L'architecte Emile Benoît fut chargé de projeter un grand programme édilitaire d'équipements nécessaires à la ville renaissante à la fin des années 1920 : stade municipal, dispensaire, consultation de nourrissons, préventorium, bâtiment pour le service de la voirie et nouvel hôtel de ville. Les plans du nouvel édifice furent établis par Benoît en 1930. Les travaux décoratifs sont l'oeuvre de Moïse Massy, peintre décorateur. Les vitraux d'art représentent deux panneaux de mineurs quittant la mine et la moisson, des sujets allégoriques Liberté Egalité, le portrait de Jean Jaurès et les armes de la ville. Le réaménagement du parc fut confié en 1931 à l'architecte paysagiste Georges Van Den Heede.

History
The architect Emile Benoît was tasked with designing a large municipal building programme of facilities necessary for the city reviving at the end of the 1920s: municipal stadium, dispensary, infant consultation, preventorium, building for the roads service and new town hall. The plans for the new building were established by Benoît in 1930. The decorative works are the work of Moïse Massy, decorative painter. The art glass windows represent two panels of miners leaving the mine and the harvest, allegorical subjects Liberty Equality, the portrait of Jean Jaurès and the arms of the city. The remodelling of the park was entrusted in 1931 to landscape architect Georges Van Den Heede.
