La mention du café est attestée en 1855. Le décor intérieur est inspiré de la seconde Renaissance française des années 1530. La grande salle actuelle possède des lambris peints qui adoptent une savante surcharge décorative. Les lambris d'appuis moulurés sont surmontés par des pilastres décorés de disques et d'entrelacs, eux-mêmes couronnés de chapiteaux corinthiens. Les pleins des travées font alterner vastes miroirs et niches ovales occupées par des aiguières sculptées en haut-relief. Les caissons sont peuplés de grotesques (figures d'amours, visages humains et feuillages entrelacés). Un grand caisson représente les armoiries de la ville portées par deux amours. Dans les années 1970, l'aménagement d'un bar modifié l'unité des deux salles. Placés en enfilade, le café et l'arrière-salle communiquent aujourd'hui par une ouverture centrale dont le couronnement est décoré. L'arrière salle, au décor nettement plus simple, est éclairée par une ouverture zénithale qui, à l'origine, devait prendre son jour naturellement.

History
Mention of the café is attested in 1855. The interior decoration is inspired by the second French Renaissance of the 1530s. The large present room has painted panelling which adopts a learned decorative excess. The moulded plinth panelling is surmounted by pilasters decorated with discs and interlace, themselves crowned with Corinthian capitals. The solid parts of the bays alternate vast mirrors and oval niches occupied by ewers carved in high-relief. The coffered panels are filled with grotesques (figures of cupids, human faces and intertwined foliage). A large coffered panel represents the city's arms borne by two cupids. In the 1970s, the fitting out of a bar modified the unity of the two rooms. Placed in enfilade, the café and the back room communicate today by a central opening whose crown is decorated. The back room, with distinctly simpler decoration, is lit by a skylight opening which, originally, was meant to take its natural light.
