La défense de la plage des Grands Sables est assurée par la construction en 1747 d'un grand mur d'escarpe à simple redan remplaçant le bastion projeté. Vers 1858, le réduit de la Ferrière est construit sur le modèle du corps de garde type 1846 n°2 : c'est le seul de ce type subsistant sur l'île. Les couronnements ont été arasés peu après sa construction et il est actuellement partiellement enseveli.

History
The defence of Grands Sables beach is ensured by the construction in 1747 of a large escarp wall with simple redan replacing the projected bastion. Around 1858, the Ferrière redoubt is built on the model of the standard guard house type 1846 no. 2: it is the only one of this type remaining on the island. The crownings were levelled shortly after its construction and it is currently partially buried.
