Ce cinéma-théâtre est construit par Pingusson et Furiet et inauguré le 15 avril 1927. Les archives de Georges-Henri Pingusson (1894-1978) sont conservées à l'Institut français d'architecture (IFA). Le bâtiment est construit à l'emplacement de l'hôtel du petit Saint Jean par Victor Régnier, président de la société des Palais de Provence. Il commande en même temps le casino du Grau du Roi, détruit en 1964/

Les plans de 1926 montrent une grande salle rectangulaire se poursuivant à l'arrière par une scène importante. La grande salle est bordée côté place et boulevard par un bâtiment plus bas abritant des boutiques et cafés en rez-de-chaussée et des bureaux et appartement au 1er. Au-dessus de l'entrée se trouve un dancing avec bar et au second des loges et la cabine de l'opérateur ainsi que les appartements du directeur et du gérant. L'ensemble est prévu pour 2500 places. En 1973, la grande salle est recoupée par Fernand Méric et l'architecte marseillais Marcel Lauze pour créer plusieurs salles plus petites, avec des dalles intermédiaires, défigurant défigurant ainsi l'intérieur. Sur la façade principale, la véranda du bar est ajoutée en 1987, le panneau central est écrêté à la hauteur des deux autres en 19959 pour des raisons de sécurité et l'ensemble est repeint en blanc puis en 2002, une boîte en aluminium laqué vert est placée au-dessus de l'anceinne entrée masquant le balcon et les baies centrales.

This cinema-theatre was built by Pingusson and Furiet and inaugurated on 15 April 1927. The archives of Georges-Henri Pingusson (1894-1978) are held at the Institut français d'architecture (IFA). The building was constructed on the site of the hôtel du petit Saint Jean by Victor Régnier, president of the Palais de Provence company. He commissioned at the same time the casino at Grau du Roi, destroyed in 1964.
Description
The plans of 1926 show a large rectangular hall continuing at the rear with a significant stage. The large hall is bordered on the square and boulevard side by a lower building housing shops and cafes on the ground floor and offices and an apartment on the 1st floor. Above the entrance there is a dancing hall with bar and on the second floor loges and the operator's cabin as well as the apartments of the director and manager. The whole is designed for 2,500 seats. In 1973, the large hall is subdivided by Fernand Méric and the Marseille architect Marcel Lauze to create several smaller halls, with intermediate slabs, thus disfiguring the interior.
