Bien que l'origine n'en soit pas connue, il est possible que ce bas-relief ait servi d'enseigne à une hostellerie de Saint-Georges. Il existait à Nîmes, au 16e siècle, un logis Saint-Georges, mais son emplacement reste inconnu. History
Although the origin is not known, it is possible that this bas-relief served as a sign for a hostel of Saint-Georges. There existed in Nîmes, in the 16th century, a lodging house of Saint-Georges, but its location remains unknown. This bas-relief comprises two shields, one with the arms of France, the other party France (fleurs de lys) and Brittany (ermine). This indication would place it in the last years of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century. The sculpture is placed above the entrance door. In a cabled rectangular frame, a knight, clad in his armour and mounted on his horse, drives his lance into the mouth of a dragon. To the right, on a heap of rocks, a figure prays, eyes to heaven. This iconographic theme is completed by two shields in accolade.
