Historique
Description

History
Vincent Benedetti, ambassador of France, had this family tomb erected, surmounted by a chapel, on private land, according to a practice becoming generalised among Corsican notables in the 19th century. The construction of the tomb takes place on family land reorganised to adapt it to the need. Work begins in September 1862 and ends in 1863. It then has only one vault, under the chapel, the exteriors are not finished (they will be in 1865), nor the pediment which will see its marble decoration completed in 1871, two years after the attribution of the title of count. It was enlarged in 1908 with a second vault, under the direction of architect Bronzini, realised without affecting the original scheme too significantly.
Description
Built on the Lupino rock, this family vault is composed of a base surmounted by a funeral chapel. The latter has a rectangular plan, extended by an apse, itself fitted with vaults. Mural paintings decorate the walls. The character of its façade is classical, in ashlar and presents decorative elements in cast iron. Access to the tomb is a wrought-iron portal opening onto a monumental staircase. The external composition is completed by vegetation commonly indicated for funeral spaces such as a yew avenue and cypresses at the angles of the building.
