A partir du Second Empire, le Gua devient un centre industriel lié à l'extraction de la houille et à la création d'acieries. Parallèlement à la construction du centre industriel, la Société des Aciéries met sur pied un programme urbain comprenant un habitat ouvrier et quelques édifices publics dont l'église, confiée à Louis Auguste Boileau. Edifice de style neo-gothique, bâtie dès 1865 et inaugurée en 1867. L'église traduit les recherches architecturales de l'époque, et témoigne de la démarche de l'architecte en faveur de l'utilisation du métal au milieu du 19e siècle. La vaste nef dégagée est rythmée par de fines colonnettes de fonte.

History
From the Second Empire onwards, the Gua became an industrial centre linked to coal extraction and the creation of steel works. Parallel to the construction of the industrial centre, the Steel Works Company set up an urban programme comprising worker housing and a few public buildings including the church, entrusted to Louis Auguste Boileau. A building in neo-gothic style, built from 1865 and inaugurated in 1867. The church reflects the architectural research of the period, and testifies to the architect's approach in favour of the use of metal in the middle of the 19th century. The vast open nave is articulated by slender cast iron columnettes.
