Francisque David, négociant en velours de Saint-Etienne, entreprend le forage d'une source à Abrest, dans le hameau de la Tour, sur la rive gauche de l'Allier. Forée à 159 mètres de profondeur, elle est baptisée source du Dôme thermal. Ces eaux très chaudes, jaillissant à 65,4°, servaient à l'origine pour les bains dans l'établissement thermal de première classe, puis furent exploitées comme boisson - l'embouteillage se faisant à côté - et actuellement pour la fabrication des boues utilisées dans les thermes de Vichy. En 1900, F. David fait deux autres sondages, donnant naissance aux sources du Lys et Cornélie. Les trois sources ont été intégrées dans le domaine de l'État en 1927.

La source est abritée par un kiosque de forme octogonale. Sa clôture basse maçonnée est cantonnée de piliers carrés supportant des poteaux métalliques ouvragés, eux-mêmes supportant la toiture à charpente de bois couverte en zinc. Un grillage posé entre les poteaux métalliques complètent la clôture. La porte pleine en bas et grillagée au-dessus est surmontée d'une enseigne portant l'inscription : SOURCE DU DÔME / propriété de l'État / 66°. A l'intérieur, une cuve en pierre recouverte des sécrétions émanant de la source qui jaillit à l'intérieur.

History
In the 1870s-1890s, a wave of new boreholes was undertaken according to private initiatives, reaching all the communes neighbouring Vichy: a veritable "war of the sources" was established between their initiators, who hoped to obtain substantial income from them. Francisque David, a velvet merchant from Saint-Etienne, undertook the boring of a source at Abrest, in the hamlet of la Tour, on the left bank of the Allier. Bored to a depth of 159 metres, it was named the Dôme thermal source. These very hot waters, gushing forth at 65.4°, originally served for baths in the first-class thermal establishment, then were exploited as a beverage - the bottling taking place nearby - and currently for the manufacture of muds used in the Vichy spa. The source is sheltered by a kiosk of octagonal form.
