Historique

History
The Gannat-Commentry line was created in 1861 following the industrial development of these two towns under the Second Empire. The engineer Wilhelm Nördling designed metal structures for crossing the four most deeply embedded valleys on the line. The Belon viaduct has piles reinforced on each corner by a cylindrical bracing strut curved outwards, resting on a stone mass by means of a stirrup block. The columns thus formed are reinforced by gusset plates allowing fixing on iron bracing members. The Bouble viaduct has simple straight bracing struts reinforced by curved braces. Its four piles and five bays make it one of the monumental works by size. Construction began in 1868, but the technical difficulties to be solved were such that the works were completed in 1871.
