Historique

History
The Gannat-Commentry line was created in 1861 following the industrial development of these two towns under the Second Empire. Engineer Wilhelm Nördling designed metal works for the crossing of the four most deeply incised valleys of the line. The Belon viaduct has piles reinforced on each corner by a cylindrical strut curved outward, resting on a masonry mass by means of a stirrup block. The columns thus formed are reinforced by attachment gussets allowing fixing onto iron cross-braces. The Bouble viaduct has simple straight struts reinforced by curved bracing legs. Its four piles and five bays make it one of the monumental works in terms of size. Construction began in 1868, but the technical difficulties to be resolved were such that the works were completed in 1871.
