En 1990, le Conseil général de la Haute-Vienne a acquis une maison de la place des Halles où, dans une façade banale, une fenêtre en granit, encadrée de moulurations de la fin de l'époque gothique, prouvait une certaine ancienneté du bâtiment. Les travaux d'installation du tribunal d'instance de Rochechouart dans ces locaux ont remis au jour des traces de décor peint à fresque, mentionné par le Dr Marquet dans les années 1900. On y devine un buste d'homme en costume du temps de Louis XII ou de François 1er, et une série de portées musicales accompagnant un texte. C'était la maison appelée du Prieuré, dernier vestige du prieuré Saint-Sauveur fondé en 1049 par les moines de l'abbaye de Charroux à proximité du château de Rochechouart, sur le territoire de la paroisse de Biénac. Divers aménagements, à partir de 1762, l'ont transformée en maison ordinaire. Le décor peint est certainement à rapprocher des fresques du château. History
In 1990, the General Council of Haute-Vienne acquired a house on the Place des Halles where, in an unremarkable façade, a granite window, framed with mouldings from the end of the Gothic period, proved a certain age of the building. The work of installing the district court of Rochechouart in these premises uncovered traces of painted fresco decoration, mentioned by Dr Marquet in the 1900s. One can discern a bust of a man in costume from the time of Louis XII or François I, and a series of musical staves accompanying a text. It was the house called Priory House, the last vestige of the priory of Saint-Sauveur founded in 1049 by the monks of the abbey of Charroux near the castle of Rochechouart, on the territory of the parish of Biénac. Various arrangements, from 1762 onwards, transformed it into an ordinary house. The painted decoration is certainly to be connected with the frescoes of the castle.
