Cette gare a été construite sous les ordres de Raoul Dautry de 1926 à 1927, pour la Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord, par l'architecte Urbain Cassan, chef du service bâtiments de cette compagnie, assisté, pour les calculs de ferraillage, par l'ingénieur Forestier, de la Société Forestier, Alquié et Compagnie. Edifiée sur un terrain minier, la gare est conçue pour résister aux affaissements du sous-sol : onze compartiments en béton armé non jointifs, avec des chambres ménagées dans les fondations pour manoeuvrer des vérins hydrauliques, permettent de compenser les mouvements de terrain. La frise en mosaïque de grès cérame est due à Auguste Labouret ; réalisée dans un style qui évoque le cubisme de Montparnasse, elle traite des thèmes liés à l'exploitation ferroviaire et à celle du charbon. Les grilles des portes ont été exécutées par le ferronnier d'art Edgar Brandt, sur les dessins de l'architecte.

History
This station was built under the orders of Raoul Dautry from 1926 to 1927, for the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord, by the architect Urbain Cassan, head of the buildings department of this company, assisted, for the calculations of steel reinforcement, by the engineer Forestier, of the Société Forestier, Alquié et Compagnie. Built on a mining site, the station is designed to resist subsidence of the subsoil: eleven compartments in non-jointed reinforced concrete, with chambers created in the foundations to operate hydraulic jacks, allow compensation for ground movement. The frieze in stoneware mosaic is due to Auguste Labouret; executed in a style evoking the Cubism of Montparnasse, it treats themes linked to the exploitation of railways and coal. The door grilles were executed by the ironworker Edgar Brandt, on drawings by the architect.
