Historique
Monument à la mémoire du syndicaliste et homme politique du bassin minier. Le projet fut dressé en 1929 par l'architecte Barthelet qui décéda avant la fin des travaux. L'inauguration eut lieu en 1933. Le monument, à l'intérieur d'une petite enceinte triangulaire, se présentait comme un grand bloc avec deux ailes latérales. Le socle était garni de bas-reliefs et la statue en bronze se dressait devant un grand treillage métallique en fonds présentant trois grands arcs plein cintre intégrés à l'intérieur du treillage. Cachée, la statue fut épargnée de la fonte pendant la Seconde guerre mondiale. Elle fut érigée une seconde fois en 1956. La mise en scène originelle avec treillages métalliques cintrés disparut définitivement et le socle fut reconstitué en partie comme le premier en y ajoutant un étroit obélisque servant de fond à la statue. Les sculptures furent commandées à Augustin Lesieux qui les livra en 1929.

History
Monument in memory of the trade unionist and politician of the mining basin. The project was drawn up in 1929 by architect Barthelet who died before the end of the works. The inauguration took place in 1933. The monument, within a small triangular enclosure, presented itself as a large block with two lateral wings. The base was adorned with bas-reliefs and the bronze statue rose up in front of a large metal lattice in background presenting three large round arches integrated within the lattice. Hidden, the statue was spared from melting down during the Second World War. It was erected a second time in 1956. The original staging with curved metal lattices disappeared permanently and the base was partially reconstituted like the first by adding a narrow obelisk serving as background to the statue. The sculptures were commissioned from Augustin Lesieux who delivered them in 1929.
