Historique

History
Church of the 12th century, with a single nave with transept and lateral bell tower. The present nave was covered with a barrel vault of which the springing points are still visible. At the crossing of the transept, stronger colonettes, set against pilasters, supported double arches. These columns have capitals ornamented with masks and acanthus leaves. The capitals of the north-west pier present ornamentation inspired by Roman antiquity. The present choir occupies the back of a reworked part. The primitive church should indeed have extended beyond the present limits. The transept occupies, on the south-west side, the base of a bell tower contemporary with the nave. The upper part of the bell tower is modern. In the re-entrant angle of the bell tower and the nave is raised a bay vaulted with a broken barrel vault which must have formed an apse before the opening of the present door. The north-east arm of the transept was reworked at the end of the 12th century. It is divided into two bays by columns with capitals with crockets and talon mouldings indicating the approach of the 13th century. These two bays were vaulted in the 13th century on rib vaults, as attested by the springing points of the ribs and the formerets which still exist. On the exterior, a few sculpted corbels indicate the location of a cornice now disappeared. According to the orientation, the arrangement of the three openings of the south-east façade and the presence of the apse against the bell tower, it seems that the orientation of the church has been reversed, the choir formerly occupying the location of the present nave, the church having a flat chevet. The destruction at an unknown date of the former nave no doubt motivated this reversal of the plan.
