Historique

History
Chapel presumably pre-Romanesque in its oldest parts and which would have been the place of worship of a hospital relay on the route of Perthus. At the time of the dispersal of the neighbouring monastery of Saint-André, in the 14th century, it would have been part of a priory founded at that time by some monks from that convent. The primitive building comprised a nave of four bays vaulted in overreaching round arch, with double arcs stopped at the springings by an oblique termination. In each gutter wall, a niche marked the bays. The chevet, on a square plan, is in ruins. The fourth bay, closed by a late wall, became the present chevet. An absidiole had been raised on the north side of the chevet. It is likewise in ruin. The transept was raised in the 14th century with elements from the cloister of Saint-André. The present door opens in the west gable and contains reused stones probably also from Saint-André. It is surmounted by an ellipsoidal oculus. The gable terminates in three ashlar pillars forming a campine wall. The crowning of this construction, probably late, is currently constituted only by a beam intended to support the bells. The roof rests directly on the vaults. It must have been in slate slates before being remade in barrel tiles.
