Historique

History
The oldest mention of the church dates from 1266. Laurac was attached to the diocese of Mirepoix (1318) while a large part of the dependencies of the former seigneurie remained in the diocese of Saint-Papoul. The building became, from 1491 onwards, the seat of a confraternity. In 1856, the last bay of the nave having collapsed, a temporary repair was carried out before definitive reconstruction undertaken in 1863 which affected the greater part of the south wall. The building is of rectangular plan, not vaulted. The entrance is preceded by a massive porch which serves as the base for the bell tower. Above the south entrance a large sculpted stone has been inset, much damaged, bearing an escutcheon. The bell tower, square, was heightened several times. Access is by an octagonal turret attached to the north and certainly more recent than the base of the bell tower. The Renaissance door opens under the porch. It is round-arched with ashlar lintel, pilasters and entablature.
