History

The parish of Mireval, which predates the 10th century, was attached in 1318 to the diocese of Saint-Papoul, but part of its territory was enclosed within the diocese of Mirepoix. Repairs in the 19th century left the western portal intact. The most important works took place in 1837. The sacristy and lateral chapel were built in 1866 and 1868. The building is oriented and is of southern Gothic type with a single nave and polygonal chevet. The entrance, in the axis of the western façade, corresponds to a portal with a segmental arch surmounted by an archivolte with a pointed arch whose moulded body is enriched with a vegetal frieze. Two crocketed pinnacles frame this composition. On the gable of this façade rises a bell wall with four openings superimposed in pairs. Inside, the nave has exposed roof structure on diaphragm doubleaux arches. The bay at the far end is occupied by a gallery put in place in 1840. At the level of the first bay, near the choir, two lateral chapels open on either side of the nave under a broken arch. The southern chapel, covered with a rib vault, is a fitting from the 15th and 16th centuries. The northern chapel dates from the 19th century. The choir is separated from the nave by a broken diaphragm triumphal arch. It is covered with six vault sections on radiating ribs.
