En 1463, Louis XI se rend au château lors de son déplacement de Limoges à Saint-Junien, y soupant et couchant. Une famille est connue depuis 1212. Le plan présente un corps de logis encadré de deux pavillons au nord et une aile en retour à l'ouest. Cette dernière se terminait autrefois par une tour ronde. Des arrachements se voient encore. La toiture du pavillon Est a été abaissée par économie lors d'une réfection vers 1955. Le château a conservé son unité d'édifice remanié au 16e siècle. A l'intérieur, la chambre dite de Louis XI conserve une cheminée du 15e siècle. Deux salles du 16e siècle conservent des poutres moulurées sculptées de motifs de cuirs, sans doute peints à l'origine.

History
In 1463, Louis XI went to the castle during his journey from Limoges to Saint-Junien, dining and sleeping there. A family is known from 1212. The plan presents a dwelling body flanked by two pavilions to the north and a wing in return to the west. The latter formerly ended in a round tower. Traces of its removal can still be seen. The roof of the East pavilion was lowered for economy during a repair around 1955. The castle has retained its unity as a building remodelled in the 16th century. Interior-wise, the room known as Louis XI's preserves a 15th-century fireplace. Two 16th-century rooms preserve moulded beams sculpted with leather motifs, no doubt originally painted.
