Historique

History
The castle was a stronghold of the lordship of Malemort, on the border between the county of Quercy and the viscounty of Limoges. The first mention of the castle dates from 1300. In the 15th and 16th centuries, it is enlarged. From this period dates the rectangular tower which includes a room with a Renaissance fireplace on the fourth storey, as well as a sculptured fireplace. The building consists of two structures arranged in a T-shape. The central rectangular tower is occupied by a straight staircase with double flight. On the third floor, a 16th century door opens onto a spiral staircase which leads to a room on the fourth floor and continues into the roof space. Outbuildings complete the ensemble. This castle, rebuilt in the 17th century while preserving certain 16th century arrangements, constitutes a remarkable example of the classical period in this part of Limousin.
