Historique

History
Military architecture of the 14th and 15th centuries, restored at the end of the 16th century after its ruin in 1580 during its capture by Protestant troops. Originally a simple watchtower, the square-plan castle is flanked by two massive square and rectangular towers to the west, and by two cylindrical towers to the east. It comprises a rectangular main dwelling extended by two wings and a curtain wall to the south which closes off the courtyard. The north wing (former stables), having served as a stone reserve for building the house of a former owner, has been provided with an open-work gallery to ensure waterproofing. The main dwelling presents four levels: vaulted halls in the basement; two large halls, one with a ceiling, the other with a 17th-century vault; the third floor is for the apartment; the fourth floor is occupied by the roof space with machicolations. The whole is served by a straight-axis staircase. The two square towers retain their latrines in the angle with the main dwelling. The castle was sold as national property in 1793.
