Historique

History
The origin of Massillon school is linked to the creation, in 1733, of a seminary, first installed in the priory of Saint-Ferréol then in a building constructed for this purpose on boulevard Trudaine. After the Revolution, the major seminary was transferred to the convent of the Ursulines of Montferrand while the minor seminary was installed in the former convent of the Bernardines situated on rue Bansac. Built in 1658, the convent had been divided into two lots. The chapter house became the refectory for the middle and junior students, and the dining room of the teachers. The chapel was transformed into a kitchen. Various buildings were added, notably the chapel. The bulk of the school buildings is arranged around a square recreation courtyard. In the chapel, stained glass windows by Thibaud (1851), depicting scenes from the life of Christ. Works of extension and fitting out were executed in the 20th century, notably in the 1930s. An important commission was given to the painter Louis Dussour in order to provide the most prestigious places in the school with decoration. The chapel of the music school and the entrance vestibule are decorated with wall paintings by Dussour, dating from 1935. The banqueting hall is decorated with a painting on plywood by M. Nicaud and Louise Cottin, representing the principal monuments of the region.
