Sous la Restauration, la ville entreprit de nombreux travaux hydrauliques, dont l'édification d'un château d'eau à l'intérieur de la commune. Ce château d'eau, construit de 1830 à 1837, devait remplacer l'ancien, connu sous le nom de Fontaine des Lignes. Ce fut l'architecte Degeorges qui l'édifia, à l'emplacement d'une croix renversée en 1830. Cette construction est inachevée. Degeorges avait prévu d'orner chacune des faces d'une statue. Ces statues auraient représenté les huit grands hommes du département (Michel de l'Hospital, Chabrol, Desaix, Delille, Arnauld, Domas, Pascal, Thomas). £De plan octogonal, cet ouvrage s'élève au centre d'un bassin circulaire dans lequel coulent les eaux sortant de quatre masques d'hommes barbus, placés à la base du réservoir. Ce dernier est divisé en trois registres : base renflée ornée des quatre masques, et tables évidées intermédiaires qui devaient être ornées des statues d'hommes célèbres. Ces tables sont couronnées d'une frise saillante de grecques. Un bassin supérieur, polygonal également, est surmonté de deux vasques circulaires superposées d'où jaillit l'eau.

History
Under the Restoration, the town undertook numerous hydraulic works, including the construction of a water tower within the commune. This water tower, built from 1830 to 1837, was to replace the old one, known by the name of Fontaine des Lignes. It was the architect Degeorges who built it, on the site of a cross overturned in 1830. This construction is incomplete. Degeorges had planned to decorate each of the faces with a statue. These statues were to represent the eight great men of the department (Michel de l'Hospital, Chabrol, Desaix, Delille, Arnauld, Domas, Pascal, Thomas). Of octagonal plan, this structure rises at the centre of a circular basin into which flows water from four bearded male masks, placed at the base of the reservoir. The latter is divided into three registers: swollen base decorated with the four masks, and intermediate hollowed-out tables which were to be decorated with statues of celebrated men. These tables are crowned with a projecting frieze of Greek key pattern. An upper basin, polygonal also, is surmounted by two superimposed circular basins from which water springs forth.
