Les revers de l'armée française en Espagne face aux armées anglo-ibériques, contraignirent le maréchal Soult à se replier sur la frontière franco-espagnole. Celle-ci fut fortifiée de juillet à novembre 1813 par des redoutes en terre ou en pierre, dont certaines avaient déjà joué un rôle en 1793. Ce dispositif fut enfoncé par Wellington en novembre 1913.

History
The setbacks suffered by the French army in Spain against the Anglo-Iberian armies forced Marshal Soult to fall back on the Franco-Spanish frontier. The latter was fortified from July to November 1813 by redoubts in earth or stone, some of which had already played a role in 1793. This system was broken through by Wellington in November 1813.
