History
Only keep of Romanesque date preserved unaltered in the department. The fortifications of the town date from 1199. The keep would have been built by the same engineer and served as a citadel. The château comprises two lower courtyards and the square keep built on a cube of rocks isolated from the hillside by the excavation of ditches. The cube was surrounded by walls. The keep, at the centre of the platform, is square and furnished with flat buttresses on the angles and at the centre of the faces. It comprises three superimposed storeys, including the ground floor. The summit of the keep is demolished. It is probable that it was not higher than the two remains of walls which still dominate it and which must give the height of the wall-walk.
