The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Kauniainen on Helsingin ja Turun välisen rantaradan väliasema, jonka kokonaisuuteen kuuluu arkkitehtuuriltaan ainutlaatuinen jugend-asemarakennus, kaksi tavaramakasiinia sekä talousrakennus. Rautatieasema on ollut ratkaiseva Kauniaisten kehitykselle.

Asema vehreine piha-alueineen sijaitsee nykyään kaupungin keskellä. Puinen asemarakennus on vaurioitunut tulipalossa.

Kauniainen is an intermediate station on the coastal line between Helsinki and Turku. Its ensemble includes an architecturally unique jugend station building, two goods storehouses and an outbuilding. The railway station has been decisive for the development of Kauniainen.

The station, with its green yard areas, is now located in the centre of the city. The wooden station building has been damaged by fire. One of the storehouses has a canopy and, exceptionally, is located opposite the station building, on the north side of the track. The outbuilding was originally used by the stationmaster.

The Kauniainen area was almost uninhabited when it was decided in 1897 to build part of the Helsinki-Karjaa line through it. The coastal line between Helsinki and Turku opened to traffic in 1903. Kauniainen (Grankulla) was initially a halt, but its class was raised to a station in 1908. At that time the goods storehouses and the jugend station building with a tower were built, which was extended slightly in 1911. The building was damaged by fire in autumn 2008.
