The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Saimaan rannalla sijaitseva Rapasaaren asema on Saimaan vesiliikenteen ja rautatien ensimmäinen leikkauspiste.

Lappeenrannan radan satama-asema Rapasaari on rakennustyypiltään pysäkin piirustusten mukaan tehty paviljonkimainen rakennus. Hirsirakenteinen asema on satulakattoinen ja siinä on radan puolella avokuisti. Asema on nykyisin puistoalueella. Lähiympäristö on muuttunut, ja Rapasaareen johtanut rata on purettu.

Riihimäki- Pietari –radan liikennöinti alkoi 1870. Simolasta vedettiin rata Lappeenrantaan osin sotilaspoliittisista syistä 1885, sillä Lappeenrannassa ryhdyttiin järjestämään suomalaisen sotaväen leirikokouksia. Lappeenrannan radan rakentamisen yhteydessä rakennettiin raiteet Saimaan rannalle Rapasaareen.

Rapasaari station, on the shore of Saimaa, is the first point of intersection between Saimaa water transport and the railway.

The Rapasaari harbour station on the Lappeenranta line is a pavilion-like building of a type made to halt drawings. The log-built station has a gable roof and an open veranda on the track side. The station now stands in a park area. The surroundings have changed, and the track leading to Rapasaari has been dismantled.

Traffic on the Riihimäki-Pietari line began in 1870. The line from Simola to Lappeenranta was built in 1885, partly for military-political reasons, as camp exercises for the Finnish army began to be organised in Lappeenranta. In connection with the construction of the Lappeenranta line, tracks were laid to the shore of Saimaa at Rapasaari.

The harbour was built north of the Lappeenranta Fortress in connection with the railway project. Piling work for the harbour quay was carried out in winter, and surfacing in summer 1885. The line was completed before the imperial visit of 3.-11.8.1885, when Emperor Alexander III and the heir to the throne Nicholas made an official visit to Finland, travelling the route Pietari-Viipuri-Lappeenranta-Lauritsala-Helsinki-Pietari.

The Rapasaari track, built for the harbour's freight traffic, crossed the western ramparts of the Lappeenranta Fortress. The length of the harbour quay was 119 m. A track was also built from Rapasaari to the Pallonlahti industrial area and on to Voisalmensaari.
