Kirkon pohjaratkaisu on suorakulmainen kolmio. Kirkkosalin 47 metrin korkeuteen kohoava katto on esijännitetty riippuva teräsbetonikuori, mikä oli ensimmäinen tämän tyyppinen valutyö Suomessa. Kirkkosaliin lankeaa pehmeä ylävalo katon seinämässä olevasta suuresta ikkunasta. Lattia laskeutuu tummine penkistöineen kohti kolmion kulmaan sijoitettua alttaria. Katosta riippuva keluvene on muistuttamassa läheisestä puunjalostusteollisuudesta.

Lappeen pitäjään kasvaneen Lauritsalan taajaman, sittemmin Lauritsalan kauppalan seurakunta perustettiin 1951. Lappeenrantaan Lauritsala liitettiin 1967.

Kirkkokeskus rakennettiin 1957 järjestetyssä arkkitehtuurikilpailussa ensimmäisen palkinnon saaneen Taivaan valo -niminen ehdotuksen mukaan. Sen tekijöinä olivat arkkitehti Toivo Korhonen ja arkkitehtiylioppilas Jaakko Laapotti, avustajana insinööritoimisto Magnus Malmberg.

Tasakattoinen seurakuntakeskus valmistui 1961 ja sille kontrastiksi suunniteltu kirkko 1969. Viranhaltijoiden rivitalo otettiin käyttöön kirkkokeskuksen rakennusryhmästä viimeisenä 1970. Kokoontumistilojen arkkitehtuuria kehiteltiin toteutusvaiheessa. Kokonaissommittelu ja yksityiskohdat poikkeavat kilpailuehdotuksesta.

Lauritsala Church is an example of 1960s church architecture that was new and bold in its floor plan and technical execution, and which had several followers.

The building group formed by the church, the parish centre and the officials' terraced houses is located in the urban settlement that grew up with the industrial plants, and is situated in the block between Hallituskatu, which leads to the main gate of the factory, and Etelä-Puistokatu and Keskuskatu.

The church's floor plan is a right-angled triangle. The roof of the church nave, rising to a height of 47 metres, is a prestressed suspended reinforced concrete shell, which was the first casting of this type in Finland. Soft overhead light falls into the nave through a large window in the wall of the roof. The floor slopes down, with its dark pews, towards the altar placed in the corner of the triangle. A keluvene hangs from the ceiling as a reminder of the nearby wood-processing industry.

The parish of Lauritsala, the urban settlement that grew up in Lappee parish and later became the market town of Lauritsala, was founded in 1951. Lauritsala was merged into Lappeenranta in 1967.

The church centre was built in 1957 according to the proposal titled Taivaan valo, which won first prize in an architectural competition held that year. Its authors were architect Toivo Korhonen and architecture student Jaakko Laapotti, with the engineering firm Magnus Malmberg as assistant.

The flat-roofed parish centre was completed in 1961, and the church, designed as a contrast to it, in 1969. The terraced houses for officials were the last part of the church centre building group to be brought into use, in 1970. The architecture of the meeting spaces was developed during the construction phase. The overall composition and details differ from the competition proposal.
