The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Pitäjänsaari on vanhimpia säilyneitä esikaupunkialueita nykyisen Suomen alueella. Pitäjänsaaren luotsivartiotupa on harvinainen esimerkki kaupunkiluotsien päivystyspaikasta ja osa Haminan vanhan sataman historiallista rakennuskantaa.

Pitäjänsaari sijaitsee Haminasta länteen johtavan maantien varrella. Savilahdessa sijaitsevan, kapeiden salmien mantereesta erottaman saaren rakennuskanta on sijoitettu säännöllisiin korttelistoihin. Vanhimmilta osiltaan rakennuskanta on 1700-luvulta, mutta pääosin myöhempää.

Pitäjänsaaren rakennetun ympäristön mittakaava on sangen yhtenäinen. Historialliseen miljööseen liittyy moni-ilmeisen rakennuskannan lisäksi runsas puusto.
Pitäjänsaaren eteläosassa on sen itäpuolella sijaitsevaan Tervasaaren vanhaan satama-alueeseen liittyvä luotsivartiotupa. Korkealla tornilla varustetulle pienelle hirsirakennukselle, jonka ulkoasu viittaa 1800-luvun jälkipuoliskolle, ei tunneta vastineita. Pitäjänsaaren eteläkärjessä on lisäksi Krimin sodan aikaisia linnoituslaitteita.

Pitäjänsaari is one of the oldest surviving suburban areas in present-day Finland. The Pitäjänsaari pilot guard house is a rare example of a duty post of town pilots and part of the historical building stock of Hamina's old harbour.

Pitäjänsaari lies along the road leading west from Hamina. The building stock of the island, located in Savilahti and separated from the mainland by narrow straits, is laid out in regular blocks. The oldest parts of the building stock date from the 18th century, but most of it is later.

The scale of the built environment of Pitäjänsaari is quite uniform. Apart from the varied building stock, the historic milieu includes abundant tree cover.
In the southern part of Pitäjänsaari is the pilot guard house, associated with the old harbour area of Tervasaari on its eastern side. No parallels are known for the small log building with a high tower, whose exterior suggests the second half of the 19th century. At the southern tip of Pitäjänsaari there are also fortification works from the Crimean War.

The Pitäjänsaari suburb arose in the 18th century on the western side of the fortress esplanade of the Hamina fortress and the town strait, as a residential area for Finnish craftsmen. Less affluent residents, who could not build to the requirements of a fortress town, were given plots outside the town. The suburb of Russian craftsmen was located in the part of Hamina on the Viipuri side.
