For the 300th anniversary of Roger Williams's settlement at Providence, Rhode Island marked itself in 1936. Road markers went up at the town lines, each face carrying the arms of the town it faces and that town's own historical text, and the towns marked their historic sites by the hundred. Every marker recorded in the Commission's 1937 report now has a permanent page at TreeAlive, placing its 1937 text on georeferenced maps from the period it commemorates.
