Manitoba's Heritage Council plaques, on the maps of their eras

Did your family live in Manitoba? Load your tree to see which of these places stand near where they lived. Try it with your own tree

The Manitoba Heritage Council honours people, places and events of provincial historical significance with commemorative plaques, and the Historic Resources Branch publishes their texts on its plaque pages. The Branch's list names 193 plaques and Provincial Heritage Sites, at 200 locations. Of those locations, 74 have permanent pages at TreeAlive, each carrying the Council's text as the Branch publishes it, and the French text where the Branch publishes one. The Branch records no coordinates, so every page stands on a location worked out from the Branch's own address, intersection or legal land description, checked two independent ways, and says the location is approximate. Locations we could not place two ways are not shown yet.

74 marker pages, on more than 83,000 historical map sheets. Manitoba Heritage Council Commemorative Plaques, Historic Resources Branch, Government of Manitoba, credited on every page.

What a Manitoba family sees

TreeAlive maps family trees. When a visitor's ancestors lived in Manitoba, the Heritage Council plaques standing near those places surface automatically alongside their family's journey:

Stopping the Survey · near where a family lived on the Red River lots in the 1860s · what this marker records spans 1868 to 1870, overlapping the family’s years here

When a plaque stands near a place in your own tree, you have a personal reason to go see it. Open the live demo tree, choose the Crossings tab, and turn on Historical Markers to see the experience working (the demo family’s markers are in Pennsylvania; a family with Manitoba roots sees these).

QR-ready, from day one

Every marker page has print-ready QR artwork. A scan at the sign opens the marker's page on the period map, no app to install. TreeAlive does no printing or installation.

Marker page links are permanent: identifiers are never reassigned, so a code printed today resolves for good.
