Mercer's Bottom
This is part of the 16,000-acre tract surveyed by order of Washington for General Hugh Mercer. Near here are graves of Adjutant John Hereford and Ensign John Wilson, both of whom were officers in the Revolutionary Army.
1937 text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native and Black people, and tells frontier history from the settler's side.
