Slate Hill Plantation
A mile west is Slate Hill, home of Nathaniel Venable, who was a member of the Prince Edward Committee of Safety in the Revolution and a charter trustee of Hampden-Sydney College. Tarleton's British cavalry raided this place in 1781, seeking to capture Venable and army supplies stored here.
