Palmer School and Cemetery
In 1838 the Palmer family began using this site as a private burial ground. Palmer School was built here c.1887 at the behest of Elizabeth Norman Jenkins, the property’s owner. The school served white children of the Centenary area. It eventually had approx. 100 students and two teachers. Palmer School closed in the 1920s. Local families continue to be buried in the cemetery.
