Langston Baptist Church

Front: This congregation organized in the 1770s and was originally known as Upper Duncan’s Creek Baptist Church. It went dormant during the American Revolution and reconstituted around 1788. Upon reorganizing, it was part of the Bethel Association. The church was led by Rev. Joshua Palmer for most of its early years and grew to include more than 300 members during his ministry. Reverse: In the 19th century the church was renamed in honor of Solomon Langston (1732-1825), a Patriot militiaman who provided tis site for the church’s construction and was also father to Revolutionary-era figure Laodicea “Dicey” Langston. A family burial ground just north of here became the church cemetery. The current church building dates to at least the mid-1800s with later additions.
