Duncan Creek Presbyterian Church

Front: This church organized in 1763-64 and is one of the oldest Presbyterian congregations in Upcountry S.C. Most early members were Scots-Irish immigrants who began settling nearby in the 1750s. The church’s namesake creek was named for John Duncan of Aberdeen, Scotland. Sixteen members served in the Revolutionary War. Reverse: The oldest known grave in the church cemetery dates to 1776. Tradition holds members first worshipped in a log building at this site. The extant stone church was built in 1842 and renovated in 1927, when an original gallery used by enslaved people was removed. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
