Front: The Dr. Duett Thompson Teal House was built in 1921. It is a large, asymmetrical home with a circular tower at its S.W. corner. Seven chimneys with corbelled caps pierce the roof. A spindle frieze over the stairway and patterned metal ceiling are among the interior embellishments. The house was listed in the National Register of Historic Places as part of the West Main St. Historic District in 1982. Reverse: Teal (1871-1954) graduated from Baltimore Medical College in 1893 and practiced medicine for 60 years. Teal was influential in bringing the railroad to Chesterfield. He also established the Teal Light and Power Co. in 1917, which delivered power to the town from 1917-1921. A dam and powerhouse generated power, which was carried to Chesterfield by six miles of transmission lines.
