Front: Mt. Sinai Methodist Church (1/2 mi. S) was the home church of the Rock Mills Undenominational Singing Convention, later called the Interdenominational Colored Singing Convention. Formed by 1895, the Convention held annual meetings mostly at local Methodist and Baptist churches and other sites in this part of Anderson Co. Reverse: Tradition holds the Convention sang using shape notes, a notation system common in communal sacred music. Officers and song leaders typically gathered at Mt. Sinai to plan the annual meeting and conduct teacher training and rehearsals. The Convention remained active until disbanding in the 2010s.
