Smithville

McCurtain County · on US-259, 1/4 mile west of Smithville

Town's original name was Hatobi, but it was renamed in 1890 for Joshua Smith. A nearby salt lick inspired the name of Big Lick Presbyterian Church, founded in the 1830s. Folsom Training School operated here from 1921 to 1933.
