Rev. Peter Folsom, First Choctaw Baptist

Haskell County · on grounds of New Hope Indian Baptist Church southwest of Keota

Born in Mississippi c. 1814 and converted at Choctaw Academy in Scott County, Kentucky, c. 1829. With Rev. Joseph Smedley, Rev. Peter Folsom organized five churches in Indian Territory. He died on September 15, 1885.
