Of the usual conical type, used for the interment of the dead. They were probably built by the Sioux Indians who occupied this area prior to about 1700. Such mounds usually contain human bones, fragments of pottery, and fresh water clam shells. The Chippewa replaced the Sioux in this region about 1752.
