Colvill Homestead
Between this point and the lake lay the 167 acre homestead located about 1893 by Colonel William Colvill of the First Minnesota Volunteers. Here he built a large log home and spent much of his time until 1900. The house was destroyed by fire about 1906. The township is named for Colonel Colvill.
Verbatim 1940 text, presented as a historical record, not current interpretation. Minnesota now calls the 1862 conflict the U.S.-Dakota War and has since replaced the wording on some of these signs.
