Portolá Expedition Campsite

On August 11, 1769, the Portolá Expedition arrived at the junction of the Arroyo Mupu and Santa Paula Creek. The place was named the Holy Martyres Ipolito and Cassiano. On founding the Mission of San Buenaventura, the priests established here an asistencia and christened it Santa Paula, where they held services for the Mupu Indians.
