Casa de Bandini

Adobe house constructed about 1827 by José and Juan Bandini. This house was headquarters of Commodore Robert F. Stockton in 1846; the place where Kit Carson and Edward Beale delivered their urgent message, calling for reinforcements to be rushed to the aid of General Kearny, on the night of December 9, 1846.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
