Gutiérrez Adobe

In 1841 the municipality of Monterey granted a lot to Joaquín Gutiérrez. On this land he and his wife, Josefa, built an adobe home. The house has been donated to the state by the Monterey Foundation.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
